Message from the President

Thank you for your interest in what has been called “the most compelling monument project of the 21st Century”.

Like millions of others, I first became aware of the magnificent idea to build a Statue of Responsibility while reading Viktor Frankl’s book, Man’s Search for Meaning, during my college days in the 1970’s. From that time to the present, my life’s journey has shown me the critical role freedom plays in allowing people to pursue meaning-filled lives that result in their happiness. Once freedom has been won, and once order has been implemented to guide it, it then becomes the duty of each successive generation to act to preserve it. Responsibility lives in the act of preserving freedom.

Freedom is the umbrella under which all other human endeavors can flourish.

I was introduced to the Statue of Responsibility monument project in 2002 by the sculptor, Gary Lee Price. Since that first meeting, the project has been on my mind and in my heart. It has ignited a fervent passion to see the monument built. I believe the time to build it is now. I believe history is reaching back to us in the present, encouraging us to stay the course, to stand tall, and to succeed in building the monument.

The significance of the Statue of Responsibility monument is the message which it will evoke in freedom loving people around the world; the message that, “with great liberties come great responsibilities.”

The Foundation does not, in any way, wish to advocate a uniform way to act responsibly. Our objective is to stimulate a national discussion on the role responsibility plays – hand in hand with liberty – in maintaining freedom. Individuals must determine their own personal commitment to live a responsible life.

The Statue of Liberty has served as a symbol of liberty, both in America and throughout the world. Its counterpart, the Statue of Responsibility, in time, will likewise serve as a symbol – a visible representation and call to responsibility - both in America and abroad. These two principles - liberty and responsibility- when linked together, will help engender and secure freedom for the present generation and for generations yet unborn, wherever a thirst for freedom exists. Only by balancing Liberty with Responsibility can Freedom be sustained.

Our Foundation is committed to build the Statue of Responsibility monument on the West Coast of America, and see it dedicated before the end of the first decade of the 21st Century.

The following words summarize my feelings about why the Statue of Responsibility needs to be built now:

“A national dialogue on the virtues of responsibility,
as linked to liberty,
is critically needed in our day and time.
All sectors of society – education, business, religion,
government, military, the media,
family and the individual – will benefit.
I can think of no more poignant catalyst for this national dialogue,
than to build the Statue of Responsibility
on the West Coast of America.
Balanced with
the Statue of Liberty on the East Coast, these
two stately monuments will encourage
discussion that will inevitably lead us to renewed
awareness for responsible action.”

We understand that there will be critics who will scoff at our cause. We anticipate there will be others who ridicule the design of the monument. Throughout all time, critics have nipped at the heals of those engaged in worthy undertakings. Such is the path we are on. Our resolve to succeed in our mission is fixed, our determination unshakable, and our inner conviction impenetrable.

The Statue of Responsibility will be a gift to America by Americans, and by “Friends of Freedom” from around the world. It will stand 300 feet tall. It will be cast in stainless steel.

Freedom is global in scope. The Monument Pathway at the base of the monument will allow visitors to experience artistic representations of responsibility and freedom as sculpted by selected artists from countries around the world. These sculptures, up to 30 feet in height, will provide an international experience to the powerful message of the Statue of Responsibility monument. Each participating country will receive a 26 foot version of the Statue of Responsibility to place in their country.

I invite you to become a “Friend of Freedom” to this ambitious cause. Help support this project in ways that only you can. Help us build this mighty monument to all that is good and to all that is right in the world.

Rarely in a person’s lifetime does a project of such magnitude, such importance, and such timeliness present itself. The Statue of Responsibility is such a project!

I invite you to join us in building the Statue of Responsibility!

Onward & Upward.
