Dr. Pamela Zuker joins the Statue of Responsibility Foundation
Pamela Zuker, Ph.D., has recently been appointed to co-chair the Foundation’s Human Development Steering Committee.

Dr. Zuker is the founder of ‘The Center for Noogenic Research’, located in Aspen, Colorado. The Center is an organization dedicated to performing and promoting research in Human Development. Before founding the Center, Zuker performed research at the National Opinion Research Center (NORC), the Alfred P. Sloan Center, and the ‘Five Hundred Families’ study of Parents, Children, and Work. Dr. Zuker’s Ph.D. is in Human Development and Psychology from the University of Chicago. Her current research focuses on optimal experience, virtue ethics, and the role of meaning in adult life.
Speaking about the Statue of Responsibility Foundation, and the historic monument project the Foundation is undertaking, she said, “I have long been an admirer of Dr. Viktor Frankl, and subscribe to the philosophy that ‘ultimately, man should not ask what the meaning of his life is, but rather must recognize that it is he who is asked. In a word, each man is questioned by life; and he can only answer to life by answering for his own life; to life he can only respond by being responsible.’(Man’s Search for Meaning, pg. 172). This Statue of Responsibility monument project will serve to symbolize our young country’s emergence out of adolescence and into adulthood by recognizing the need to balance liberty with responsibility. It will remind us that we are all responsible not only to ourselves but to each other, and in so doing, convey the dignity and worth of each human life.”
“Dr. Zuker is a great asset to our Foundation. Her dedication to seeing the monument built, coupled with her research on bringing more meaning to life, are most valued and highly respected. She understands the value the monument will bring to society as a symbol for lasting freedom, and as a catalyst for dialogue on the role responsibility plays in that freedom,” said Daniel Bolz, President & CEO of the Foundation.
More about the Foundation
The Statue of Responsibility Foundation is committed to seeing the idea of Dr. Viktor E. Frankl become a reality. In the 1960’s, Frankl said, “Freedom is not the last word. Freedom is only part of the story and half of the truth. The positive aspect of freedom is responsibleness. That is why I recommend that the Statue of Liberty on the East Coast be supplemented by a Statue of Responsibility on the West Coast.” The Statue of Responsibility Foundation, a 501-c-3, non-profit corporation, has a two-fold mission: First, to raise the funding necessary to construct the monument. Second, and more long-term in nature, is to establish an educational scholarship fund. Scholarships will be given to applicants who have financial need and who can demonstrate how they have applied the principle of responsibility in their life – and how they plan to carry out responsibility following their university graduation.
