STATUE OF RESPONSIBILITY FOUNDATION APPOINTS NEW VP OF DEVELOPMENT

SALT LAKE CITY, UTAH, 2 November 2010 – Statue of Responsibility Foundation appoints new VP of Development.

With no small task before him, David R. Barlow has accepted his appointment as Vice President of Development for the Statue of Responsibility Foundation. Mr. Barlow will supervise the raising of the Foundation’s current $8 million campaign for its ‘Pre-Launch Phase’. After successfully raising over $1 million for the projects ‘Start-Up Phase’, Daniel Bolz, President & CEO felt it was time to bring in more experienced and talented fundraising professionals to tackle the next phase of the historic monument project.

“David has two key qualifications for this position. He is a passionate patriot and he knows how to raise money,” said Bolz. “We have the utmost confidence in Mr. Barlow’s ability to accomplish our current funding needs within the time line constraints of the projects overall strategic plan,” added Bolz.

Barlow has gathered a team to assist him with the fundraising needs for this phase of the project. The Pre-Launch Phase will see the monument project being presented to the six potential host cities on the west coast. Additionally in this phase, the sculptor, Gary Lee Price, will complete both a 15 foot tall prototype and a 30 foot tall version of the monument. Also planned for this phase is a concentrated social media and SEO campaign for the Foundation which will attract several million new volunteers and supports to the project.

MORE ON BARLOW.

Mr. Barlow began his work in the non-profit world as the Executive Director for Hall of Fame Quarterback, Steve Young’s non-profit corporation. As Executive Director, Barlow worked with Nike, Visa, private individuals, government grants and other non-profits to promote the mission of the foundation. During his four-year tenure as Executive Director he successfully launched the “Be a Sport” campaign and helped secure the foundation as an official licensee of both the Salt Lake Olympic Committee and the Unites States Olympic Committee.

After leaving full-time effort in the non-profit world, Barlow began using his relationships and experience to raise money for other non-profit organizations, business start-ups, consumer products and large resort real estate and development projects. Barlow has also contributed to many of the companies he has raised funds for by serving as a business development and marketing consultant.

Barlow is the founder of a new international service organization, which can be found at www.ragpicker.org. He is a past board member of the Freedoms Foundation at Valley Forge (Utah Chapter). Mr. Barlow enjoys the outdoors, writing, and competing in Triathlons. He resides in Alpine, Utah with his wife and four children. In his spare time Barlow is an inspirational keynote speaker for corporate, civic and youth leadership events.

David R. Barlow

“The Statue of Responsibility is an idea whose time has come. I can’t think of a better message for the current state of our country and I am honored to be part of such a truly noble cause,” said Barlow.

MORE ABOUT THE STATUE OF RESPONSIBILITY FOUNDATION.

The Statue of Responsibility Foundation is committed to seeing the idea of Dr. Viktor E. Frankl become a reality. In the 1960’s, Frankl wrote in his landmark book “Man’s Search for Meaning”, “Freedom is not the last word. Freedom is only part of the story and half of the truth. The positive aspect of freedom is responsibleness. That is why I recommend that the Statue of Liberty on the East Coast be supplemented by a Statue of Responsibility on the West Coast.”

The Statue of Responsibility, called, “the most compelling monument project to freedom of the 21st Century”, will stand 300 feet tall, the same height as the Statue of Liberty, and will be located on the west coast of the United States. Internationally renowned sculptor Gary Lee Price was commissioned in 1997 to begin design work. His final design was officially approved in 2005 by the Foundation’s board of trustees. Photos of the monument design may be found on the Foundation’s website.

Speaking to his design, sculptor Gary Lee Price reflects, “Two gripping hands is a powerful human representation of responsibility. The power is in its simplicity. Gleaming in stainless steel, this monument will become a world-wide symbol of inspiration for future generations. It will stand as a respectful complement to Lady Liberty.”

The Statue of Responsibility Foundation, a 501(c)(3), non-profit corporation, has a two-fold mission: First, to raise the funding necessary to construct the monument. Second, and more long-term in nature, is to establish an educational scholarship fund. Scholarships will be awarded to applicants who have financial need and who can demonstrate how they have applied the principle of responsibility in their life – and how they plan to implement this principle following their university graduation. The Foundation has volunteers in 21 U.S. states and 19 foreign countries.

STATUE OF RESPONSIBILITY FOUNDATION ISSUES FIRST OFFICIAL WHITE PAPER

SALT LAKE CITY, UTAH, 1 October 2010 – Statue of Responsibility Foundation issues its first official ‘White Paper’.

Under research and development for over two years, the Statue of Responsibility Foundation (SOR Foundation) has announced the release of the organizations first official “White Paper”. The publication, like other industry white papers, establishes the core philosophy of the Foundation and addresses the question of why it is pursuing to build the companion monument to the Statue of Liberty.

Researched and written by two university professors, Dr. David Johnson and Dr. Russell Thornley, the twenty page document is written for the consumption of the general public and media reporters. A second white paper is planned by the Foundation and will be directed to the academic sector with publication in university journals and invitations extended for peer reviews and comments. Biographical information on both authors is included in the white paper.

<img src="http://www.sorfoundation.org/wp-content/images/david_johnson.jpg" alt="Professor David W. Johnson" title="Professor David W. Johnson" width="250 height="306" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-447" />
Professor David W. Johnson

“The notion of responsibility is fundamental to both ethics and professionalism, key elements in the class I teach in Global, Ethical, and Professional Issues in Technology at UVU. The development of this White Paper has been a rewarding experience for me and it is my hope the paper will initiate further discussion about the need for greater responsibility by all to enable the opportunities of liberty to become the abilities of freedom.”
David W. Johnson, Ph.D.

<img src="http://www.sorfoundation.org/wp-content/images/russell_thornley.jpg" alt="Professor Russell K. Thornley" title="Professor Russell K. Thornley" width="250 height="250" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-447" />
Professor Russell K. Thornley

“When Dr. Johnson and I discussed how we teach the concepts of responsibility in our Global Ethics and Advanced Project Management courses here in the Technology Management Program at UVU, we agreed the Statue of Responsibility initiative represents an important and significant social and cultural center around which this important discussion should take place. We are pleased to have been invited to contribute to this timely discussion.”
Russell K. Thornley, Ph.D.

Titled, ‘The Statue of Responsibility: A Monument to Our Responsibility to Preserve Freedom’, the white paper contains three main sections plus an opening executive summary and conclusion. Sections and sub-sections are:

Freedom, Liberty and Responsibility

Responsibility

Our Responsibilities to Ourselves

Our Responsibilities to Others

Our Responsibility to Preserve Freedom

The Role of Monuments

Historical Monuments

The Statue of Responsibility

The white paper contains several historical quotes from political leaders, authors, and philosophers and is supported by an extensive bibliography.

“Many voices were listened to during the course of drafting this white paper. We wanted to be sure to include an historical perspective on the principals of liberty, rights and responsibilities as they relate to each other and to freedom. We are pleased with the final outcome. This white paper will provide a solid basis for the general public and media representatives to read as they look at
what we are doing in building the companion monument to the Statue of Liberty, as envisioned by Dr. Viktor Frankl”, said Daniel Bolz, President & CEO of the SOR Foundation.

SALT LAKE CITY, UTAH, 20 February 2010 – NEC National President Claude W. Carmack and SOR Foundation President Daniel L. Bolz sign strategic alliance.

Known as ‘America’s Service Club’, the National Exchange Club (NEC), headquartered in Toledo, Ohio, has over 22,000 members in 700 clubs throughout the country. The Statue of Responsibility Foundation has volunteers in 22 states and 19 foreign countries. The two organization leaders signed an official ‘strategic alliance’ document at NEC’s Western Regional Conference in Las Vegas on 20 February 2010. The NEC will soon make the SOR Foundation’s book, ‘Responsibility 911’ available to its members, complete with a co-branded book cover and new article by Claude W. Carmack, National President for NEC.

<img src="http://www.sorfoundation.org/wp-content/images/carmack_bolz.jpg" alt="Left, Claude W. Carmack, right, Daniel L.
Speaking about the new alliance, Carmack said, “The National Exchange Club and The Statue of Responsibility Foundation share a common bond in our ideals and philosophies as both organizations strive to promote the ideals of American freedom and the responsibilities of American citizenship. Our two organizations are unique in our combined approach to promoting the ideals of American freedom and responsibility while nurturing and educating our youth to take the reins as the next generation of American leaders. Together, I see our organizations creating a renewed sense of pride and patriotism – a common goal and rallying point that all Americans can stand behind and support. I am very pleased with the alliance of The National Exchange Club and the Statue of Responsibility Foundation. Our shared values of family, patriotism and serving others will provide a strong background in creating valuable programs to benefit our communities for years to come.”

Daniel Bolz, President & CEO of the Statue of Responsibility Foundation, added this comment to the new alliance between the two organizations, “The message of the Statue of Responsibility resonates with Exchange Club members. They are a very patriotic group of Americans who value freedom and understand the relationship between liberty, responsibility and freedom. I see this alliance as being a wonderful win-win for both organizations.”

Thousands of Freedom Shrines are currently on displays in schools, libraries, state capitols, city halls and other public venues throughout the country and Puerto Rico and at other American outposts scattered throughout the world.

Milestones of Freedom – An education curriculum for schools to utilize in conjunction with Freedom Shrines, to encourage students to gain a deeper understanding and appreciation of the story behind the documents making up the display.

Project GIVEAKIDALAGTOWAVE – The distribution of small American flags to young children at parades, fairs, picnics, school events and other civic occasions as an introduction to and the encouragement of the proper display of patriotism in community settings.

One Nation Under God – Activities to promote and encourage appreciation of our nation’s rich and inclusive religious heritage and as a reminder of the importance of belief as a power for guidance, protection and strength.

Get Out the Vote – Community efforts to educate and encourage American citizens to register to vote and exercise their right to actively participate in democracy through the electoral process.

Proudly We Hail – Community efforts that encourage the regular display of the American flag by individuals, commercial establishments and other business and community facilities.

Sense of Responsibility – NEC is currently developing a hands-on learning activity in social responsibility and citizenship education for youth and also encourages their support for the building of the Statue of Responsibility while learning the relationship between liberty, responsibility and freedom.

SALT LAKE CITY, UTAH, 14 April 2010 – Utah Governor Gary R. Herbert to hold a ceremonial signing of HCR 16, Statue of Responsibility Monument Concurrent Resolution.

Governor Gary R. Herbert will sign HCR 16, Statue of Responsibility Monument Concurrent Resolution, Wednesday, April 14th at 2:20 p.m. The resolution was presented in the 2010 Utah legislative session where it received unanimous votes in both the House of Representatives and the Senate. Sponsored by Rep. Michael Morley and Sen. John Valentine, the resolution introduces the historic monument project and identifies Utah’s role in the project. As part of the resolution, Utah will receive a 30 foot tall stainless steel replica of the monument to be displayed so visitors to the state will understand the key role Utah played in the monument project. A key element of HCR 16 is a new state moniker “Utah – Birth Place of the Statue of Responsibility”, which the Statue of Responsibility Foundation gave to Utah.

Jewish Holocaust survivor and author of “Man’s Search for Meaning”, Dr. Viktor E. Frankl of Vienna, Austria, envisioned the monument 45 years ago. He stated in his book that in order for freedom to endure from generation to generation, that our liberties (rights) needed to be lived in terms of responsibleness. He then proposed that the Statue of Liberty on the east coast be supplemented with a Statue of Responsibility on the west coast. The Statue of Responsibility Foundation is committed to building the monument.

At 300 feet tall, the same height as the Statue of Liberty, the two monuments will bookend the United States and together will become beacons of enduring freedom. Utah artist, Gary Lee Price, was commissioned in 1997 to begin design work on the monument. His final design was officially approved by the Foundation’s board in 2005 following a trip to Vienna in 2004 where Foundation officials met with the Dr. Frankl family. Dr. Frankl died in 1997. His widow Eleonore sits on the organizations international advisory council.

Speaking about the resolution, Daniel Bolz, President & CEO of the Statue of Responsibility Foundation said, “We have worked long and hard during our ‘Start-Up Phase’. Twenty three Utah companies contributed close to $1 million of in-king donations during this phase, preparing the monument project for this moment. We salute them for their commitments. In this resolution, the SOR Foundation has officially given to the State of Utah a new moniker that will grow in value over the years. This value will begin to be realized as soon as we have identified the host city for the monument and we begin our national media campaign. Once the monument is dedicated and millions of visitors tour it each year, Utah’s historic role will become more and more evident worldwide.”

ABOUT THE FOUNDATION’S NEW PUBLICATION.

To further introduce the meaning behind the Statue of Responsibility, and its connection to preserving freedom, the Foundation has recently published “Responsibility 911”, an anthology containing short articles from 56 well known authors. Each article is short and thought provoking. Some of the articles present a deeper understanding and appreciation for the role monuments play in our lives; others focus exclusively on the principle of responsibility as a key element for finding meaning in our lives and our work. All the articles have as their core theme, responsibilities role in society.

“The idea to create a book to help increase awareness about the Statue of Responsibility monument project was first proposed by board of trustee member, Michael Levine, a publicist in California”. “The book speaks through diversified voices to the core message of the monument, that of the role responsibility plays in a free society”, said Bolz.

The publisher screened 107 previously published articles that spoke about responsibility. The screening process resulted in the final 36 articles used in “Responsibility 911”. The Statue of Responsibility Foundation approached 20 authors, all volunteers and supporters of the Statue of Responsibility project, and invited them to pen articles that met the same core message requirement for the book. These authors also chose to weave the message of the Statue of Responsibility into their articles.

A sampling of featured authors include:

Denis Waitley

George W. Bush

George S. McGovern

Dr. Alex Pattakos

Stephen R. Covey

Tom Peters

Oprah

Peter Block

Arnold Schwarzenegger

Jack Canfield

Bishop Desmond Tutu

Pope John Paul

Barack Obama

Bob Proctor

Warren Bennis

“Responsibility 911” includes a 16 page color photo inset that shows the thirteen foot tall monument prototype and architectural renderings. The book explains how the idea to build the monument, as envisioned by Dr. Viktor E. Frankl in his landmark book, “Man’s Search for Meaning”, is moving from idea to reality.

“I invite you to read this book, share it with a friend, and thus help spread the poignant, and timely message, that freedom can only be preserved when liberty is balanced with responsibility,” said Bolz.

MORE ABOUT THE FOUNDATION.

Christmas Greetings from The Statue of Responsibility Foundation!!!

I hope this project update finds each of you well. This message from Foundation headquarters includes a brief report on activities since our last extensive update in June. I’ll present news on seven initiatives currently underway, and then list some of our new members.

PR Steering Committee organized. This new committee is chaired by Tiffany Baron. Tiffany and the committee have taken ownership of the Foundation’s long planned ‘Coast to Coast’ Educational Awareness Campaign PR tour. Phase One of the two phase tour will be implemented while we are in our ‘Pre-Launch Phase’ (see attached document, ‘Past, Present & Future’. The committee’s next conf. call in January will outline their plan to implement this pr campaign nationwide. We’re very excited about what they will be doing.

“Freedom Isn’t Free”, the book. We are pleased to report that our book project is now close to being finished, first printing is due in Feb. 2007. Each of you will get a special promotional email soon inviting you to order several first edition copies, so plan on buying at least 10 copies for yourself and friends. The book will be a fantastic promotional item to further advance the cause of building the monument. We have secured many high profile authors, including foreword by Warren Bennis, preface by Mark Victor Hansen (Chicken Soup for the Soul), and many many more… I’ve attached here a version of the table of contents you may want to look over. The authors in red are those who are members of the Foundation. Final edit will have about 50 authors in the book.

Presentations to potential host cities on West Coast. All of you know how important it is for the project to begin to present the monument opportunity to our four ‘A’ list cities (and two ‘B’ list cities) on the West Coast. Once a city and land is identified, and contracts signed, the project will take on a whole new life of momentum and the feeling that the monument will really be built. We are most grateful for the team of companies who are now under contract to make these presentations happen. Headed by JGS out of Omaha, NE, this team consists of very highly respected companies who specialize in presenting and promoting major tourist attractions and facilities throughout the country. This is the most important action item for our ‘Pre-Launch Phase’ we entered as of May, 2006 (see attached document The Statue of Responsibility Monument Project: Past, Present, and Future). As soon as we have sufficient funds donated, we will begin the process of presenting.

Fundraising - Tom Schaff, out of St. Louis, MO, is our new ‘Director of Corporate Giving’. Tom is a successful businessman who approached the Foundation with the offer to assist us in raising money. Tom has been actively involved in his work in this regard. We look forward to his success in this important area of the project. Our goal for the ‘Pre-Launch Phase’ is $5 million in 18 months. This will allow us to keep moving ahead on several initiatives.

Artist Agreement - It is important, from a fundraising perspective, to have our contract in place and signed between the Foundation and Gary Lee Price, commissioned sculptor for the monument. We have been working on the document over the last 18 months and are happy to say it is finished. The trustees will be reviewing it in January with signatures to follow.

PR Internship Program - Nick Cottle has offered to organized an aggressive college internship program for the Foundation. He is a PR major, due to graduate in 2007. Nick will spearhead the work of the interns and will use them to implement the work of the PR Steering Committee. An outline of work these interns will be tasked with is attached here. Nick intends to find interns from universities throughout the country. We are pleased that younger people are being attracted to the monument project. This will become a major undertaking of involvement by Generation X and Generation Y young adults. I’ve attached a document here about the tasks that will be worked on by these interns.

Speaking Circuit - I have been encouraged (and pushed out the door) by a trusted friend and member of the Foundation to go on the speaking circuit to help promote the monument project. This trusted friend has also acted as my speech coach. I’ve prepared a compelling presentation about the Statue of Responsibility. So now I will begin to line up speaking engagements. I have one scheduled for Buenos Aries, Argentina this coming summer. I am thinking that two to three a month is all I will have time for. If any of you wish to find out more about scheduling me to make a presentation to any groups you are associated with, give me a call.

Welcome to these new Foundation members.

I hope this message from the Statue of Responsibility headquarters finds each of you doing well. Many advancements have taken place since our last update in March.

Our commissioned book project is making headway. Meetings with our editor/publisher are identifying the best ways to promote the book. We will be offering a pre-sell option to many and hope each of you will place an order for 5 or 10 books once we are ready. More to come soon…

We welcome the following new volunteer members to the Foundation:

Dr. Paul T. Wong, President and Founder of the International Network of Personal Meaning. Paul was born in Hong Kong and now lives in Vancouver, BC, Canada. Check out his organizations website at www.Meaning.ca

Randy Garn, President of Prosper, Inc. Randy’s company won the Earnst & Young’s Entrepreneur of the Year award in 2005.

A new institutional partner to join in our cause is the INPM (International Network on Personal Meaning).

One of our current ‘front burner’ initiatives is to schedule and make our initial presentation about the monument project to each of the four potential host cities (San Diego, San Francisco, Long Beach and Seattle). Our goal is to have the city and the land confirmed by the end of 2006.

The Foundation has received official invitations to present our monument project at two professional conventions in the near future. The first convention is the 4th International Conference on Personal Meaning held in Vancouver, BC, Canada. This convention will draw close to 1,000 professionals in the health sciences fields from all over the world. The second convention is the 2nd Annual Latin American Congress on Logotherapy and Existential Analysis held in Buenos Aires, Argentina. This convention will also draw close to 1,000 professionals in the health sciences fields from all over Latin America, Italy and Spain. We are honored to be invited to each of these conventions and look forward to officially introducing the monument project to their attendees.

Regarding the status of visiting Rome and meeting the Pope. We have received official permission to meet the Pope in what is called a ‘general audience’. We intend to follow through with this as soon as funding permits.

On the topic of funding… Our big initiative in this regard is contained in the following document titled, “Past, Present and Future”. I’ve provided it in the body of this update as well as included it as an attachment for those of you who wish to print it out and give it to a potential donor. Essentially we have completed our ‘Start Up’ phase of the project and have now entered our ‘Pre-Launch’ phase. Here is the document. The Statue of Responsibility Monument Project: Past, Present, and Future

You will notice in section I, third bullet, a $1.2 million donation in product and services. This came as the result of a letter sent to all our project partner companies from our chairman, Kevin Hall. Each of the partner companies were asked to donate their current invoices to the Foundation, and by so doing, allow our fundraising goals to be reached more quickly. Many thanks to each of these companies who boldly stepped up to the challenge and did so. The owners of these companies are true ‘friends of freedom’ and are 100% committed to seeing the Statue of Responsibility monument built… our hats go off to each of them!

In as much as we are now in our ‘Pre-Launch’ phase, our goal is to raise $5 million in 18 months. Our short-term goal is to raise $200k by 15 August. On this topic I would like to extend the following invitation to each of you… Currently we have 172 volunteers and members of the Foundation. The following donation examples are presented:

*if each of us donates $100 that will equal $17,200 towards our short-term goal

*if each of us donates $500 that will equal $86,000 towards our short-term goal

*if each of us donates $1,000 that will equal $172,000 towards our short-term goal

I am confident that the money will be raised. Many in the Foundation are working to that end. I also believe that each of us needs to do our own part to make the monument become a reality. Each of us needs to make a donation of sacrifice to become part of the history we are making. I invite you to consider the above donation options and choose one. All donations should be mailed to:

Statue of Responsibility Foundation

Attn: Donations

2825 East Cottonwood Parkway, Suite 500

SLC, UT 84121

On the topic of volunteers making ‘buzz’ about the monument project, two examples are shared here.

1. Dr. Alex Pattakos from New Mexico, President of The Innovation Group, is creating quite a stir internationally about the monument project via his Personal Responsibility Dialogue at the Global Dialogue Center. Check out this link to see what people are saying: www.globaldialoguecenter.com/responsibility. Thank you Alex!

2. Mark S. Rogers from Michigan was successful in getting a story about the monument project printed in a local Michigan paper and is now contacting radio talk show hosts, politicians, and even the White House to arrange meetings and interviews. Way to go Mark!

In conclusion: We continue to meet people who want to be involved in this historic project. Many are volunteering their time to help. A heartfelt “thank you” to each of you who are supporting this worthy and much needed cause.

We will be successful in our quest – of this I am sure.

Greetings Friends of the Foundation, and Friends of Freedom!!

Many good developments have happened since our last project update in December 2005. Listed here is a summary of those developments:

The trustees met in December and among other items, approved a policy that allows the Foundation to acquire new board members as the Foundation grows and the monument project speeds up. Specific terms of service, tasks to be completed, suggested donation amounts etc. are all listed in this policy.

Thanks to an idea suggested by board member Michael Levine, our commissioned book project is well underway. Our editor has acquired articles from 116 authors who have written about some aspect of responsibility in society. These will be pruned down to a final of count of 50 articles. Design for the book jacket has been completed and arrangements to pre-sell the book and have it distributed are underway. The Foundation will use the book as a public relations tool as well as a fund raising tool. Invitations have been sent to Senator John McCain and Bishop Desmond TuTu to write the foreword for the book.

New corporate and institutional partners include:

The Good Idea Group, CA

Prosper, Inc., UT

The Center of Logotherapy and Existential Analysis, Argentine Catholic University, Argentina

New members include:

Paul C. Godfrey, Ph.D, UT

Paul Rusesabagina, Belgium

Dr. Claudio Cesar Garcia Pintos, Argentina

Tom Holdman, UT

Dr. Nabyl Eddahar, Morocco

George S. McGovern, SD

	Info on these new members:

1. Paul Godfrey - Paul wrote a major research paper about how valuable giving to philanthropic causes is to corporations. He is advising us on corporations that may be interested in providing sponsorship donations to the monument.

2. Paul Rusesabagina - Paul is the main character portrayed in the movie “Hotel Rwanda”. He will create ‘buzz’ about the monument project as he tours the world speaking out against genocide. If you have not yet seen the movie, I highly recommend it. Paul was directly responsible for saving over 1,200 lives in the 1994 genocide in Rwanda, Africa, which ended in the killing of 1 million people in 100 days. Paul was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom by President Bush in November 2005. Paul is a member of our International Honorary Advisory Council.

3. Dr. Pintos - Dr. Pintos is the director of the Logotherapy Institute at the Argentine Catholic University in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Dr. Pintos is also a contributing author for our book. He has invited the Foundation to introduce the monument project at upcoming conventions in Argentina 2007. Dr. Pintos is a member of our International Honorary Advisory Council.

4. Tom Holdman New member of our ‘Building Committee’. - Tom and his company, Holdman Studios, will be responsible for designing the stained glass sections in the Visitors’ Center. Tom is an internationally acclaimed artist.

5. Dr. Nabyl Eddahar - Dr. Eddahar is a Senior Fulbright Scholar living in Morocco. Dr. Eddahar is Muslim and will be a contributing author in our book. Dr. Eddahar is a member of our International Honorary Advisory Council.

6. George S. McGovern (ret. UN Ambassador and US Senator from South Dakota) - George McGovern ran against Richard Nixon in the presidential race of 1972. Still active at age 83, Sen. McGovern is involved in humanitarian causes such as world hunger. George McGovern is a member of our National Honorary Advisory Council.

7. A new fund raising plan, that is designed to attract both new board members and donors (corporate, individual and foundations), has recently been approved by the board of trustees and will soon be implemented.

Michael Levine, one of our trustees, arranged to have our Statue of Responsibility Foundation website listed on his Levine E-Lert (LBN E-Lert) electronic email service as the ‘Charity of the Week’ on December 17 and 18, 2005. His company’s e-news service is read daily by over 145,000 influential people worldwide.

Moved to a front burner project, is making our formal presentations to each of the four potential cities where the monument will be built. It is our intent to begin these presentations soon, with the plan to have a community and location confirmed by the end of 2006. The four potential locations are: San Diego Harbor, Los Angeles coastal area (Long Beach Harbor), San Francisco Bay, and Puget Sound (Seattle).

In conclusion: This year, 2006, is the Foundation’s year to turn the corner on fund raising. We have several plans in place now which will begin this turning. Our organization is well represented by dedicated individuals from around the world. I am convinced that we will succeed in our cause to build the ‘most compelling monument of the 21st Century’.

Thank you for your commitment and dedication to this historic undertaking.

“Success on any major scale requires you to accept responsibility!! In the final analysis, the one quality that all successful people have is the ability to take on responsibility.”- Michael Korda

I extend my personal appreciation to each of you who have taken on this additional responsibility amidst your busy personal lives, to help in ways that only you can, to see that the Statue of Responsibility is built. Every bit of energy, every small task, every donation of time or money, every action to help create ‘buzz’ about the project, has an impact on our ultimate success.

It is time for another project update. Much has happened since our last communication on May 6th, 2005.

Our Foundation is growing in numbers, in influence, in diversity, and in geographic reach. We now have over 65 Foundation volunteers that span 13 states and 4 foreign countries. I have attached our updated “Project Statistics” document for your review. This document is now posted on our web site and is updated monthly.

From the comments we continually get, we are more and more convinced of the need to build the Statue of Responsibility just as soon as we possibly can. I keep a file on ‘positive vs negative’ comments about building the monument, and on the actual design as sculpted by artist Gary Lee Price. To date, we have a 14 to 1 ratio, that is 14 in positive support to 1 on the negative side.

We are getting much closer to implementing our three pronged strategy for funding. As many of you know, one of those prongs is to present the monument project to Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger. We now have three contacts to him via various board members. One of those contacts is involved in an initial meeting with the Governor today. Please send all your positive thoughts etc. in that direction.

Here is a brief listing of some highlights of the past month or so.

Jack Canfield, (CA) author, speaker and founder of the Chicken Soup for the Soul book series is now an official member of our Honorary Advisory Board! Jack has written 57 titles, sold 80 million books in 32 languages. He brings immense strength to the monument project. His press release will appear by the end of June.

Two new board of trustee members:

Michael Levine, (CA). Author of 16 books and a major public relations figure in the country. See his press release on our web site.

Dr. Ann Graber, (MO). Author and past Director of Distant Learning for the Viktor Frankl Institute. Ann is from Croatia. See her press release on our web site.

Other new members include:

Dr. Jeffry Finnigan (WA). Public Relations Committee. See his new press release.

Dr. Pamela Zuker (CO). Co-chair, Human Development Committee. See her new press release.

Louisa Vallejo, MBA, (Columbia). Co-chair, Student Committee

Amber Esping, (IN). Student Committee

Dr. Ewert Cousins, (CT). Co-chair, Religion Committee. See his new press release.

Rev. Jack Swank, (IL). Co-chair, Military Committee. Jack is a decorated, retired military chaplain. His press release will be posted by the end of June.

New project partner companies:

DirectPointe. (IT Services). See new press release

Latham & Watkins, LLP. (International Law). Press release will be posted by end of June.

NCW Non-Profit Consultants West. (fund-raising, grant writing, board training, consulting).

We have signed a contract with our web site company, World Net Services, Inc. to upgrade our site to be able to take donations online.

Many new features are now on our web site. Some of these include; more photos, new home page, DVD and 3-D computer animation of monument viewable on site (just click and view), News Room – many new articles and press releases, Foundation Directory, new donor category, Program Needs page (a break down of funds needed for all aspects of the project – see this under CALL TO ACTION).

Dr. Covey discussed the monument project at a large ‘hospitality industry’ convention in NYC, held at the Waldorf Astoria Hotel.

Presentations were made to Thunderbird, The Garvin School of International Management (AZ) and Life University (GA and CA). Invitations were extended to these two institutions to become institutional sponsors.

The Foundation has been invited to officially introduce the monument project at the Viktor Frankl Institute of Logotherapy World Congress convention in Dallas the week of 21-26 June, 2005. The convention will be attended by professionals from several countries around the world.

NewsMax Magazine, a national publication, chief reporter Dave Eberhart, interviewed the Foundation and printed a full page article on the monument project. You can view the article on our web site, NEWS ROOM, Articles.

Daniel Bolz has been invited to make a formal presentation to Utah state officials and members of Rotary International. If all goes well, arrangements will be made to meet with national leaders regarding institutional sponsorship.

Donations are still needed (see letter attachment on Update #11) to keep us on track. Your financial support is appreciated.

Our several leased office locations (see CONTACT US on web site) are available to Foundation members to make presentations to potential contributors. Instructions on the web site explain how. These offices are made available through our project partner company DaVinci Property Management. Using leased office space is the most cost effective way to make available Class A office space without having to pay to fully staff numerous offices.

Conclusion.

As we gain more and more traction, as more and more people become aware of our cause, as those of influence and means support our mission financially to build the Statue of Responsibility, as those with limited influence and means support the project as they can, the message that ‘Liberty + Responsibility = Our Freedom’ will become instilled in the hearts and minds of society. Once the message is instilled, the national (and international) dialogue will ensue. There will be many who will want to discredit our cause. There will be many naysayers along the way. At the same time, their will be many who will want to engage in the dialogue and who will support the building of the monument.

As I see it, 100 years from today, each of us will dead. It is up to each of us to decide today how we will play a part in building a monument that will become known as a bookend to Lady Liberty – a monument of immense purpose and influence. A monument that will be a symbol of lasting freedom to people around the world. I believe that life is calling out to everyone who becomes aware of our cause and who wishes to see the task completed – to make it happen.

Each of us must be strong and sure of our objective. Each of us must choose to be a positive advocate of what we are all about. Each of us must believe with every fiber of our being that the cause of lasting freedom requires nothing less than total commitment. As the last scene in ‘BraveHeart’ portrayed, the great Scottish patriot William Wallace gave his last breath in crying out loud for the cause of ‘freedom’.

We may not be called upon to sacrifice our lives for the cause of freedom today, but we must believe in our hearts that the cause of lasting freedom has as much importance and significance today as it did then.

I for one, believe that to be so.

As we say in our brochure, “There comes a time in a nation’s history when its core values must be re-visited, re-energized, and re-enthroned, in order for that nation to endure.” The Statue of Responsibility, when it is standing proud and tall on the West Coast of America, will become the lightning rod for that review of what we stand for, and for what the principle of freedom means to all who possess it, to all who seek it.

Thank you for all you do in supporting the Foundation in our massive undertaking to build the Statue of Responsibility. You are forging a legacy of personal commitment that your descendants will revere you for, forever.
