Latham & Watkins Is Engaged To Represent The Statue Of Responsibility Foundation.

Latham & Watkins LLP has officially agreed to provide the Statue of Responsibility Foundation with legal assistance in multiple areas as the Foundation continues to make plans to build the Statue of Responsibility monument on the West Coast of America.

The Statue of Responsibility Foundation is committed to seeing the idea of Dr. Viktor E. Frankl become a reality. In the 1960’s, Frankl said, “Freedom is not the last word. Freedom is only part of the story and half of the truth. The positive aspect of freedom is responsibleness. That is why I recommend that the Statue of Liberty on the East Coast be supplemented by a Statue of Responsibility on the West Coast.

“Latham & Watkins is excited to be a part of the team to help the Foundation pursue the establishment of a Statue of Responsibility to serve as a West Coast bookend to the Statue of Liberty,” said Bruce P. Shepherd, Managing Partner of the San Diego Office of Latham & Watkins. “We understand that this project was the dream of Dr. Viktor Frankl, and we are pleased that the Foundation has called upon us to assist in addressing the challenges inherent in undertaking such a complex and important project.”

“The skilled people at Latham will be of great value to the Foundation in many areas, including monument site selection and assemblage, financing and related negotiations, trademark issues, and consulting on myriad non-profit organizational issues. We were attracted to Latham because of its commitment to quality, its broad expertise and history in navigating complex development projects to completion. We are most pleased to have Latham as part of our team,” said Daniel L. Bolz, President & CEO of the Statue of Responsibility Foundation.

More about the Foundation

The Statue of Responsibility Foundation, a 501(c)(3), non-profit corporation, has a two-fold mission: First, to raise the funding necessary to construct the monument. Second, and more long-term in nature, is to establish an educational scholarship fund. Scholarships will be given to applicants who have financial need and who can demonstrate how they have applied the principle of responsibility in their life – and how they plan to carry out responsibility following their university graduation.

Readers may find out more about the Statue of Responsibility Foundation, see a 3-D computer animation of the design of the monument, and view the introductory DVD of the project, by going to their web site at www.sorfoundation.org.
