This is the most important project update thus far… it represents another major giant step forward towards our ultimate goal of building the Statue of Responsibility monument on the west coast of America.Google Alert - ediscovery
The topic of this update is our just completed trip to Vienna, Austria. Our delegation included ten members from the U.S. and one from Vienna. Our group included several trustees, the artist and of course the film crew and photographer. Our Vienna member was Dr. Johann Wondra. We spent the past week in Vienna, basically from 15 November to 21 November, 2004.
The bottom line from the trip was that we exceeded each of our listed goals for the trip, and more than that, had several things happen that were ‘icing on the cake’ moments. We established sincere new friendships with the Frankl family. We received a solid endorsement of our Foundation, the project, and the design of the monument. The film crew shot over 3 hours of interviews and ‘b’ footage of Vienna. Here is an outline form of some of the things we did.
Met with Mrs. Frankl (she is 80 years old) and extended family members and officials from the Frankl Institute, viewed the Dr. Covey personal message video.
Set up and conducted six personal interviews including Mrs. Frankl, her two grandchildren, one university student, two officials from the Frankl Institute.
Attended a wonderful Austrian party in the home/restaurant where Beethoven wrote his 9th symphony.
Were invited to a private 2 hour visit/tour of the personal residence of Mrs. Frankl where she shared many touching stories about her and Dr. Frankl. Saw his personal study and his favorite statue, the ‘Suffering Man’. She talked about how much she thinks the Gary Price design for the Statue of Responsibility is what Viktor would have wanted.
Our meeting with the president of Austria, Dr. Heinz Fischer, was postponed until today. Our local board member and an official from the Frankl Institute will make the presentation and deliver project materials, renderings and the 16″ sculpture to him. Also on the note of Austrian government officials. I received a call just prior to leaving for Vienna from the Austrian consulate here in Utah. He has discussed our project with the secretary general for Austria who offices in Los Angeles, CA. They both urgently want to meet with us upon our return to discuss how Austria can/should be involved with the monument project…
We set a tentative date of mid May, 2005, for a return trip to Vienna. Here we will meet with President Fischer and attend some more social events with our new friends in Vienna.
It is hard for me to convey the emotion of this trip. Many very special and very private moments were had by everyone from our delegation as well as from the Frankl group. It is also hard to properly share the deep friendships we have established with Mrs. Frankl and her family. They love the project, they love the design of the monument. They are committed to help us in any way they can to see it completed successfully. They have agreed to sit on our international honorary advisory board. Also, Mrs. Frankl gave us a challenge to complete the project in her lifetime. She wants to attend the dedication with her family. She said that she believes Viktor is helping us from heaven…
That’s it for now. We have lots of work to do. Again, thanks to each of you for your commitment and support.
P.S. we now have some new photos posted on the web site… perhaps in a few weeks or so we will post some of our new photos from the Vienna trip…
Best regards,
Daniel Bolz
